To become a Knitwise Member:
- First attend a minimum of three Public events. This lets us get to know you and also gives you an opportunity to see if our group is right for you. These events include:
- Any Saturday Morning at the Westside Pavilion, 9:30 – 11:30 am.
- The 2nd and 4th Friday afternoons each month at the Westwood Branch Library, 2 – 4 pm.
- Knitting in the Park (see Meetup for dates and times)
- Any other event marked "Public" on Meetup
- In the meantime, check out everything our web site has to offer and peruse our Ravelry and Meetup pages.
- Take the time to update your Meetup Profile with an introduction (This is a small blurb that will appear under your name. What do you want other members to know about you first?), some fun photos, your knitting background, and interests so our members can learn a little bit about you. Feel free to check out other member profiles for inspiration.
- Then join our Ravlery group and answer the questions on the ‘Introduce Yourself!’ thread. Ravelry is free to join and a great resource for all knitters. In addition, all our Knit-Alongs (aka KALs, or CALs for our crocheters) will be on Ravelry so if you want to win anything you will need an account to participate.
- Finally, take the time to read our Group Policies. Just like any group, we have had some issues in the past and found that a set of rules is necessary to protect our members and keep everything running smoothly. Thank you for being respectful of our group and its members.
All the Perks
So what are the perks of becoming a Knitwise Member? Other than the comradery of a network of skilled and friendly knitters on the Westside you also get the following:
- You can now sign up for any event marked ‘Knitwise Members Only’ on Meetup. These include our holiday parties, potlucks, KAL parties, jam making sessions, dye days, events at member’s homes, summer picnics, classes, yarn crawls, retreats, and more!
- Knitwise Members may suggest events for our members and even choose to host events (working with our organizers) either in their homes or in the Westside area.
- Knitwise Members may join our organizers to promote the group at events like Yarnosphere and Vogue Knitting Live if we choose to get a booth.
What is all this going to cost me?
Membership is only $10 a year and helps pay for Meetup costs, booth rentals and charity projects. To maintain membership and continue receiving these benefits you must pay your annual dues of $10 by January 31st of every year. (This deadline is important so that we will have enough funds to pay the bills.)
If we do not receive your dues by that time we will remove you from the Knitwise Members list and your perks will be suspended. In order to reactivate after January 31st you will need to pay your dues. Once we receive your dues we will reactivate your membership and reinstate your perks.
