Youtube is a great place to learn to knit, because you can find a video you like, watch it, pause it, try it, and rewind. And if that person's method doesn't work for you, you can always try another video!
If you prefer in-person help, most of our Local Yarn Shops offer classes of all sorts.
These are the most basic skills that you should master before moving on to more complicated things:
Make a slip knot
There are dozens of different ways to make a slip knot- find one that works best for you
Cast on
Your cast on row is your foundation row, so that you can then begin knitting. There are lots of different ways to cast on, but the most basic is called the "Long tail cast on."
*Recommendation* Cast on 50 stitches. Pull them out. Cast on 50 stitches. Pull them out.
Knit English Style or Knit Continental Style
Now you will learn the knit stitch. There are a couple different ways to hold the yarn. Try both methods out, and see which works better for you.
Bind off
This will secure all your stitches so that you can take out your needles and not have everything unravel!
Purl
Purl is essentially the opposite of knit. You should be just as comfortable purling as you are knitting. If you're knitting continental style, look up "purling continental style" on Youtube.

Once you've gotten the hang of the techniques above, you can combine the knit stitch and purl stitch to create thousands of different projects!
